Stewart Coffin, the famous puzzle inventor, designed jupiter around 1971.
It is made from 60 triangular (90-54-36) stick segments.
5 such stick segments are glued together to form a total
of 12 pieces. The desgin is covered under US-Patent: D-232571 (1974).
The puzzle was made out of zebra, ossage orange, bloodwood, cherry,
white oak, and walnut. The size of the assembled puzzle is roughly
15cm in diameter. I have also made a similar sized one out of poplar
and three larger ones, one from poplar and two in fancy wood. The poplar
ones were really just to get the hang of making this puzzle, and serve
as shop models.
